Living Room Take 2


Living Room Take 2
I'm a girl who can't make a decision. I don't know what it is about me that has such a hard time committing to things but I really do. This makes shopping for home decor items a little tricky especially if it is a big ticket item. Thankfully, I have a husband who has lately loved putting in his two cents. I did a mood board awhile ago for our the living room in our new house that looked like this...

The look wasn't bad but since I've lived with these ideas since October when I first wrote this post (crazy town that it's been that long); I've decided I wanted to switch things around. I had considered switching out the natural rug for a blue one until Aaron sweetly reminded me that I have a sick obsession with the color blue. That's when we (Aaron would say he) decided a fun color like the coral rug would be a great choice. It brightens up the room for sure. I also love the geometric, Ikat pattern.

As for the couch, I loved the CB2 one from my original look but it was a little more than we wanted to spend. Also, the light gray worried me with having two little ones climbing all over it. I found the charcoal one that has the same basic shape. It will most likely be the one that comes home with us.

In keeping with the kid-friendly vibe, I would love a plush ottoman in place of a coffee table. We have a coffee table now and poor Will has dealt with one too many bumps on the head. Time to give him a softer place to land. I am digging the idea of a patterned ottoman that will complement the rug.

Oh, and don't worry. I still plan to get my blue in there by mixing navy and turquoise. The blue chair that I actually have in both of my looks is to die for. It is also crazy expensive at $1300. It will serve as inspiration, though, as I shop around.

Here's hoping that I don't change my mind once the room is actually done. I need to learn to go with my gut and and stop second-guessing myself.

The next time I show you my living room, it will be the actual living room. Yay! We started the process of moving in this past weekend. So, get ready for lots and lots of upcoming posts!

Girly Bedroom

 
Things have been a little busy around here lately. Between doing what we can to get our house finished, report cards, and just life in general I haven't had much time for much else. I also spend a lot of time being preoccupied with thoughts of decorating our new house. I'm always running through each room in my head and trying to imagine what they should look like. As I've done this, I realized that it was high time that I made a mood board for Audrey's bedroom. I have a feeling that the kids' bedrooms will be the first places that we put together. Mostly, because we already have the walls painted and we're using most of their current furniture. So, here is what I've been dreaming up for Audrey. Of course, she's given me a lot of input. And, that input usually begins and ends with the word, pink. I suggested that we also use black, gray, and a little turquoise in her room and she seemed okay with that. I hope that she loves it when she sees what I came created for her.

We already have the white bed and headboard and we will most likely continue to use Audrey's bedding. It is a light pink comforter with flowers. She likes it so I have no plans of changing it right now. I thought the gray fabric would make some gorgeous curtains that would be a nice neutral to go with the pink accent wall.
 
I am hoping to find an old desk that will double as a vanity. I'd like to paint it white and pair it with a black mirror. Different types of art, natural baskets, and a framed chalkboard will bring the room together. It looks like I need to go shopping! I also see some projects in my near future in the form of a mirror, those chalkboard jars, curtains, and pillows for the space. I am itching to get started on this. How great would it be if we were in the new place over Spring Break so I have time to get stuff done? A girl can wish, can't she?

Nursery Inspiration

Nine months is a long time to wait to decorate a nursery and I'm not talking about the nine months before the baby is born -- I'm talking about the nine months of Will's life that I've had to wait to put his nursery together. Why? Well, because our current house only has two bedrooms so Will has been sharing  with his big sister. And, sharing is a bit of a stretch since basically the only thing in her room of his is the crib. So, it is simply where he sleeps. Thankfully, in the new house, Will and Audrey will each have a space to call their own. I'm beyond excited to finally give Will the nursery that he deserves. Here is a quick peek of some of the ideas that I'm playing around with.


Nursery Inspiration
The bedding I already purchased from Land of Nod before Will was born. I loved the colors and the circle pattern. We will also be using the same Ikea furniture that we've had since Audrey was a baby. We have the complete set including the crib, armoire, changing table, toy chest, and wall shelf. I guess we went a little crazy, huh? (Funny story...at the time we didn't have an Ikea in our area so Aaron and I made an 8-hour round trip drive to the nearest store to get this furniture. Our local store opened about seven months later. I guess I just had to have it. Haha!)

So, my general plan is to incorporate some giraffe and map accents throughout the room. My goal will be to DIY as many of these ideas, as possible. They all seem very doable and seem like they can be created rather inexpensively. At the same time, I just want to keep things simple and know that it will evolve as Will gets bigger. The sad part is that I'm already thinking more in terms of a toddler room than an infant's nursery. Like, do I even do a mobile at this point? Won't he just be constantly trying to grab it and pull it down? I can't believe how quickly he is growing. I am convinced that the second child grows up faster than the first. I'll be sure to break it all down for you when I actually get into the space and start putting these things together. Until then, I am on the hunt for the perfect globe to make that light fixture!

Lighting Roundup

If you have been a reader since last summer, you may be familiar with my mission to find stylish lighting fixtures for the new home we're building. You can read more about it here. It has been incredibily difficult to choose items for our entire house. I just hate making decisions and this involved a lot of decision making. At first, I was very hung up on keeping everything in the same color family, such as, brushed nickel. Then, I decided that if I loved something I needed to just go with it. Sometimes what I loved was oil rubbed bronze or other darker metal so you will notice a mixture of those two colors. The overall look seems to be a good mix of industrial modern with some vintage glam mixed in. So, here is everything and my price breakdown. The builder gave us a $2500 allowance for all of our fixtures so let's see how I did!

I can't believe that I've been talking about this since last summer. I think this house can go ahead and get done already!

Playroom/Library Inspiration

I was inspired by my little girl when creating my next mood board for the new place. We will have a small room directly off the kitchen that I plan to use as a playroom and library. Basically the teacher in me wants to make this space like our own little classroom. I envision lots of books, cozy places to read, chalkboards, and accessible materials for creative and imaginative play. Audrey loves to create art and write so I want to give her an inviting space to do the things that she loves. I also want it to be functional for Will so I love the idea of a soft area rug for him to crawl around and play. I think that if I can pull this off it will be one of my favorite places in the house. I can't wait to have a place where I watch my kids play while I cook dinner. I think it will also be the perfect place to display Audrey's art that I shared in my last post.

Living Room Inspiration

 The progress of our home is moving at a snail's pace at the moment for various reasons. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we will be in before Christmas but at this point I'm not getting my hopes up. In the meantime, I will be putting some serious thought into the design of each room in our home. I've decided to create mood boards of each room that will serve as inspiration as I shop.

Our living room will serve as a cozy place for us to kick back, watch TV, read, and spend time as a family. At the same time, this room is open to the foyer and dining room so I want it to look pretty and polished. Here's what I'm thinking, so far...

I want a grey chaise sectional and I really like this one from CB2 because you can switch the side that the chaise is on. That way, I won't be limited to a particular setup.

I will be keeping the main look pretty neutral with grey, white, and navy which will look great up against the dark, wood floors. I'm hoping to add in some natural textures in the rug and accents like the basket below. Finally, I want to add some pops of color with turquoise and yellow accents.

We will have built-in shelves in this room and I love the idea of using a graphic wallpaper like the blue and white one below behind the shelves. This may be a down the road project, though.

I can't wait to get down to business and begin some serious shopping! Check back soon to see my next room inspiration.
